RIVER RIBNIK

The Ribnik River, a tributary of the Sana River, is located in the Banja Luka region within the Republic of Srpska and flows through the village of Ribnik. This limestone-origin river carries a significant organic load and experiences substantial insect hatches. It serves as a fantastic destination for brown trout and grayling fly fishing. Approximately one-third of the population consists of brown trout, while the remaining two-thirds are grayling.

Managed by the LTG Ribnik company, this river offers daily fly fishing permits priced between 30 and 40 euros. The designated stretch is catch-and-release, spanning a length of 5 kilometers. It proves ideal for anglers who appreciate patient fishing, casting to visible fish, using very small flies, and employing a 7X tippet. The river is highly accessible and easy to traverse, making it perfect for anglers with mobility challenges. The average width of the river is 20 meters, and its depth is less than a meter.

Abundant aquatic vegetation characterizes the river, reminiscent of the renowned chalk streams in England. Being a karstic river originating from a spring, its waters remain cold throughout the year, maintaining a high oxygen content.

RÍO SANICA:

The Sanica River has a length of 22 kilometers and, like the Ribnik River, is a tributary of the Sana. This river is located near the town of Kljuc and flows alongside the village with the same name as the river.

It is a small limestone river with riparian vegetation, housing brown trout, graylings, and occasionally pike and perch. The river is quite diverse, featuring alternating currents with small pools. While it has a lower fish density compared to Ribnik, it is a highly enjoyable river to fish. Additionally, it is a technical river due to the presence of numerous trees along the banks.

The daily fly fishing license costs 24 euros and covers a catch-and-release fishing section. With the same license, you can also fish in the Sana River in Kljuc, as both rivers are managed by the same fishing club.

The fishing season starts on March 1st, and only fly fishing with barbless hooks is allowed.

 

 

SANICA RIVER:

UNA RIVER:

Named «The Only One» by the Romans during the Roman Empire, the Una River originates from a spring in Martin Brod and flows through remote areas, canyons, and the largest National Park in western Bosnia.

This river is home to a robust population of large wild brown trout, grayling, rainbow trout, and hucho. The Una River annually yields some of the largest huchos in Bosnia. The prime fly fishing area is situated between Martin Brod and Kulen Vakuf. A daily fishing license for these waters is priced at 21 EUR.

It’s worth noting that there is a designated section on this river exclusively for hucho fishing. Located in Bosanska Krupa, it spans approximately 3 km, featuring large and deep pools, and fishing in this stretch is strictly catch-and-release.

 

CORCANICA RIVER:

If you enjoy fishing in wild rivers with minimal fishing pressure, this is the river for you. Unfished for many years, Corcanica has maintained a healthy population of native wild brown trout and grayling.

 

PLIVA RIVER:

The Pliva River is a limestone river with crystal-clear, slow-flowing waters that wind through hills, boasting an average depth of two meters. The section of the river with the highest fish concentration is managed by the LTB company and is located near the town of Sipovo, next to the small village of Pljeva. This stretch spans almost 6 kilometers.

Known for its brown trout and grayling, the Pliva is a highly technical river where anglers employ long leaders and very fine tippet. Experienced anglers seek the challenge of capturing trophy-sized graylings, some of which can reach lengths exceeding 60 centimeters.

Similar to Ribnik, as both rivers are managed by the same company, the daily fishing license is priced at 30 euros for those utilizing accommodations provided by the LTG company. It costs 40 euros for anglers staying in other local hostels or hotels. Fishing is restricted to the use of a single fly, practicing catch-and-release, and using barbless hooks.

 

NERETVA RIVER:

The Neretva River is renowned for being one of the few rivers in the Balkans where one can fish for the famous soft-mouthed trout, an endemic species found only in the Buna and Trebizat rivers. Managed by the Konjic Fishing Club, this river offers the opportunity to catch habitat for five species of salmonids: the soft-mouthed trout, marble trout, brown trout, rainbow trout, and grayling.

In addition to its fishing allure, the Neretva River is known for:

• Being the largest karstic river in the Dinaric Alps Adriatic basin, traversing Bosnia and Croatia.
• The famous Nazi Germany offensive, known as the Battle of Neretva.
• The Old Bridge of Mostar, a prominent historical monument in former Yugoslavia, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005. In 1993, this bridge was symbolically destroyed, marking the end of centuries of coexistence between religious communities in Mostar.

RÍO JANJ:

The Janj River is a limestone river with catch-and-release fishing regulations, known for its very cold waters. Fishing takes place in a section spanning about 5 kilometers.

 

UNAC RIVER:

The Unac River features exceptionally clear waters as it meanders through a mid-mountain region, serving as a tributary to the Una River. It harbors a population of medium to large-sized rainbow trout and, to a lesser extent, some brown trout.

 

KRUSNICA RIVER:

Krusnica, a mountain stream and tributary of the Una River, provides abundant fishing opportunities for grayling and brown trout. In its lower reaches, it is also home to huchen, predominantly ranging from 50 to 70 cm, with occasional captures of even larger specimens.
